MD/MS THESIS GRANT SCHEME 2011-2014 :
In 2011, Dr. Bindu Dey, Advisor, Department of Biotechnology launched a novel scheme to fund MD/MS-thesis research in medical colleges in NER. The DBT Nodal Cell acted as a facilitator by giving wide publicity to this programme processing applications ,implementing recommendations of the screening committee and disbursement of funds and the UC/SE thereof
The Research grants to support MD/MS-thesis to Medical Students in North-Eastern Region programme is focused on encouraging postgraduate research in medical colleges involving valid scientific hypothesis using modern biology/molecular biology/biotechnological tools on various themes dealing with human health/ infectious diseases/chronic diseases.
Till 2014 290 application have been process 152 candidates have been awarded .

CAPACITY BUILDING
The commitment of the Department of Biotechnology to Human Resource Development to match with raising standards of health & value of novel research tools in Health research has been taken forward by the implementation of this scheme.
The increase in number & quality of proposals and with each phase increased use of research & travel grants bear witness to the success of this scheme in NER

152 candidates awarded MD/MS Thesis Grant
48 MD/MS Thesis completed
102 MD/MS Thesis ongoing
45 travel grants for attending national seminars/workshops disbursed.
45 presentations generated
PHASE 7 & 8 (2014-2015):
127 applications received & being processed for evaluation.
